Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist London
Exercise Rehabilitation – is an addition or extension of treatment and aimed at education and self-management so there is less chance of returning to us in crisis.
Exercise programmes are designed to incorporate task and context specific exercise in areas meaningful to each patient. Functional rehabilitation attempts to adapt or develop exercises that allow individuals to perform the activities of daily life more easily and without injuries.
For example, exercises that mimic patients’ activities at home or work may be included in the sessions in order to help them return to their lives and jobs after an injury or surgery. Thus if a patient’s job required repeatedly heavy lifting, rehabilitation would be targeted towards heavy lifting or if the patient were a marathon runner, training would be targeted towards re-building endurance.
Programmes are developed implementing the principles underpinning functional rehabilitation, ensuring that appropriate exercises are prescribed in a progressive order.
Prehabilitation Exercise is a proactive form of training and can be used to train the most often injured areas of the body and aims to prevent injuries before they actually occur. Prehab can be applied with remarkable results to people awaiting orthopedic surgery to facilitate a quicker recover and improve outcomes.
For instance runners may benefit from functional core work, quadriceps and gluteal strengthening and stretching to help prevent knee injuries. Whilst patients awaiting hip replacement may benefit from a program designed to increase pelvic bone density and an increase in the strength of the gluteal muscles which are responsible for hip movement.
In addition, our practice uses exercise software that allows us to prescribe individual exercise programs which incorporate video and printable instruction. Patients can access their exercises online at any time.
